Habbatussauda ialah sejenis tumbuhan yang terdapat di kawasan Mediterranean dan kawasan gurun.Nama saintifik atau biologinya ialah NIGELLA SATIVA.  Bahasa biasa ia dikenali sebagai The Black  Seed, Black Cumin ,Jintan hitam, Habbah Brakah . Tanaman Habbatussauda seperti segitiga dengan ketinggian 35-50 cm.Bercabang dan melingkar pada bahagian atas Memiliki dedaun dan  bunga warna putih kebiruan. Biji hitamnya agak kuat baunya.Menyengat hidung .Namun biji hitam ini menganduingi pelbagai zat yang sangat diperlukan tubuh manusia.Ia mampu  melawan serta mengusir virus.Lantas mempertahankan tubuh daripada serangan penyakit.

Butir Habbatussauda mengalami perubahan dan pematangan bentuk sendiri atau metamorfosis iaitu daripada biji yang awalnya berwarna putih menjadi biji berwarna hitam.

Saintis di Cancer and Immuno Biological Laboratory of Germany mengesahkan Habbatussauda mampu merangsang sumsum tulang atau “bone marrow” dan sel immunity, meningkat penghasilan apa yang dikenali sebagai ‘interferon” dan mempertahankan sel-sel biasa terhadap kesan kemusnahan sel oleh virus. Seorang lagi pakar Eropah, Professor Michael Meurer pula mendaapati Habbatussauda berupaya menghentikan pembengkakan atau “inflammation” dan masalah saraf kulit.

Mereka juga mendapati Habbatussauda berupaya memusnahkan sel sel tumordan meningkatkan jumlah antibodi yang menghasilkan apa yang dinamakan B cell.

Sebenarnya banyak lagi hasil kajian yang didedahkan kerana sejak 1959 lebih 200 kajian telah dijalankan.
